Refuting a Narration of Imam Ali [a.s] about Nikkah AlMut’a !

There is a Narration in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim about Nikkah AlMut’a which our Sunni Brothers often quote in debates to give an impression that Imam Ali [a.s] whom Shi’a Imamiyyah call his Infalliable Imam has a negative opinion about Nikkah Mut’a.

Here is the Narration :

عن علي بن أبي طالب عليه السلام عنه ; أن رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – نهى عن متعة النساء يوم خيبر . وعن أكل لحوم الحمر الإنسية

Narrated by Imam Ali [a.s] : ” Prophet pbuh forbid Mut’a and Eating of Donkey meat on the day of Khyber ”

Ref : Sahih Bukhari – Imam Muhammad bin Isma’el Bukhari // Book of Wars // Chapter of Battle of Khyber // Page 451 // Hadith 4216 // Edn. Bait ul Afkaariyah Jordan.

This Narration is also found in Sahih Muslim.

  • As we already know Ahlu Sunnah are very far away from even learning Rules of Debate [Usūl e Behās] and our scholars from past untill now have been teaching them How to debate [ One can see Abqaat ul Anwar- Hadith e Noor by Great Scholar of Islam Sayed Hamid Hussain Lucknawi ]. These Sunni people don’t even know that Narrations like these which are present in their own Narrations can’t used be used while debating with Non Sunni which including Shi’a. it will be like a Christian trying to prove Jesus used to drink wine from their own Bible.
  • This Narration of Imam Ali [a.s] is Shaadh [ A type of weak Narration ] as affirmed by Salafi Scholars themselves. Here is what famous Salafi Scholar of Pakistan Shaykh Muhadith Muhammad Gondalavi has to say abour it his one of his books :

There is a Narration about the Forbidance of Mut’a on the day of Khyber But Ibn Uyuna has criticised that and said Mut’a was banned on the day of Victory of Mecca not Khyber as has been said in Fath ul Baari and Zaad ul Maad.

On Next page he say’s :

The Narration of Battle of Khyber even if is Sahih but People of Knowledge have criticised it as has been said previously.

Ref : Dawaim Hadith – Hafidh Muhammad Gondalavi // Vol 1 // Page 393 – 394 // Edn. Umm ul Qura Gujranwala Pakistan.

So When their own Scholars have decalred it WEAK then what is the fun of using this aganist us.
